Case Study (Germany)

Summary
Inizio Engage activated 6,000 German pharmacies for a generic prescription medicine provider. The campaign increased awareness and showed that data analysis, pharmacy prioritization and wholesale integration are critical.

The Challenge

An Indian pharmaceutical company wanted to establish generic prescription products in the German pharmacy market and increase market share.

However, the client had no dedicated sales team in Germany and limited experience with the structures, expectations and purchasing processes of German pharmacies.

The objective was to increase awareness of selected focus products, engage pharmacies directly and generate additional direct orders alongside existing pharmaceutical wholesale channels.

To achieve this, the client needed a sales strategy that could identify relevant pharmacies, enable customer engagement at scale and reflect the economic and operational expectations of the German pharmacy market.

The Solution

Inizio Engage developed a multi-stage call-fax-call approach and used it to activate approximately 6,000 pharmacies across Germany.

Pharmacies were first contacted by telephone to introduce the company and raise awareness of its focus products. Supporting information was then sent by fax. A follow-up call allowed the team to answer questions, develop product interest and encourage direct orders.

The campaign created broad market reach while also generating valuable insights into the priorities, expectations and purchasing behavior of German pharmacies.

As the project progressed, it became clear that pharmacies considered direct purchasing attractive only when it offered a meaningful financial or operational benefit. Wholesale terms, rapid product availability and established ordering processes remained the highest priorities for many pharmacies.

Based on these insights, Inizio Engage developed specific recommendations for the client’s future sales strategy. These included stronger pharmacy prioritization, continuous analysis of customer and market data, and closer alignment with the economic and operational needs of pharmacies.

The Result

The campaign significantly increased awareness of the company and its focus products within the German pharmacy market.

At the same time, the project demonstrated that a direct-only sales model without pharmaceutical wholesalers would not be sufficient to achieve sustainable market penetration.

Inizio Engage identified four strategic priorities:

  • prioritize pharmacies according to commercial potential
  • continuously analyze customer and ordering data
  • reflect the economic and operational needs of pharmacies
  • integrate pharmaceutical wholesalers into the overall sales strategy

The insights created a robust foundation for a sustainable, data-led commercial model in the German pharmacy market.
