Case Study (US)

The Challenge

Creation of a large-scale US Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program to assist in aggregating quantitative and qualitative data to support a prospective NDA to the FDA by raising educational awareness to key opinion leaders within the fields of Neurology and Geriatrics.

Further creation of a qualitative approach to leveraging MSLs to connect the patient journey to community experts and establish informal networks.

Create visibility and understanding of current guidelines and therapies in a challenging therapeutic field of study, mapping influencer networks and bringing back medical insights to the organization.

Our Solution

Recruit MSLs with a background in neurodegenerative diseases, who have similar experience in building national networks within the Alzheimer’s disease space.

Work collaboratively with USMA to develop a collaborative training program for disease specific guidance, outlining a comprehensive onboarding schedule.

Validate current list of HCPs and maintain an up-to-date list of HCPs, as determined by the client.

Support the educational initiatives, and collection of insights from KOLs, on strategic initiatives conducted at prioritized accounts and/or institutions.

The Results

29 MSLs hired, 2 MSL managers (comprising 90% terminal degrees) – US coverage with a broad educational outreach with a scalable model to adjust to more FTEs based on the client.

MSLs are actively engaged on multiple functional areas of influence:

  • Actively involved in the FTF/Virtual engagements nationally.
  • Collaboratively integrated with smaller internal MSL team (7) – aligning in strategic global initiatives.
  • Attending relevant medical congresses, institutional meetings and providing executive summaries for strategy.
  • Working compliantly and collaboratively with Global Head of Medical to ensure that educational outreach is aligned with pre-approval initiatives.
  • Actively participate in internal initiatives to help/support/inform by contributing to master QA based on field interaction with KOLs.
