Case Study (US)

The Challenge

The client was challenged with finding the ~3000 addressable patients for Friedreich Ataxia (FA), a rare, debilitating neurodegenerative disease that is often fatal.

The existing client field team prioritized rare disease thought leaders, academic centers and large neuro practices. The Inizio team focused patient finding on the long-tail, PCP and small neuro offices.

FA is often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed with other forms of Ataxia. The client trained our team to educate and message HCPs on FA only; to build FA awareness.

We identified that the client’s market approach was too narrowly focused on Friedreich’s Ataxia, which made it easy for healthcare providers to quickly dismiss the possibility of having a patient with this condition in their practice.

Our Solution

We provided direct feedback to the client, highlighting that the current FA awareness education was too narrow in scope. This limited approach often enabled healthcare providers to quickly dismiss the likelihood of encountering FA patients in their practice.

Deliver tailored team training to help clinicians expand their understanding of Ataxia and recognize the signs and symptoms of FA vs other forms of Ataxia.  This approach was adopted by the client’s team.

The Results

Rapid improvement of Discovery Lead Team with increased percentage of patient’s referred (Long-tail customer market)

DLT grew percentage of referrals, quarter over quarter (Long-tail customers, lower decile)

91% of start form referrals started therapy.
