Q&A with Amanda Alexander, Nurse Advisor at Inizio Engage

Q: Can you tell us about your journey into nursing?

Absolutely! I started my nurse training in Bournemouth and, after qualifying, began working on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Bournemouth Hospital as a staff nurse and deputy sister.

From there, I transitioned to the Sleep Disorders Clinic at Guy’s and St Thomas’ before returning to Bournemouth to take on various bank nursing roles across hospital wards.

My career later took me to Salisbury Hospital as an agency nurse, where I also supported the staff Covid line as part of Occupational Health.

Q: What led you to Inizio Engage?

During my time at Salisbury Hospital, I saw an opportunity with Inizio (formerly Ashfield) to administer antibody infusions to Covid-19 patients. The role allowed me to combine my hands-on clinical skills with the benefit of treating patients in their own homes, something that really appealed to me.

Q: What do you love most about being a Nurse Advisor?

My role as a Nurse Advisor allows me to apply my NHS experience in a new setting while continuing to deliver high-quality care.

Working with Inizio Engage has been incredibly rewarding. One of the most impactful moments was identifying an undiagnosed mass in a patient’s CT scan, leading to early intervention that may not have been possible otherwise. Knowing we made a real difference to that patient’s life was an unforgettable experience.

Q: Can you share an example of best-practice in your role?

Inizio Engage Patient Solutions excels at keeping us informed with the latest research and best practices. We regularly receive updates on medication alerts (MHRA) and internal policy changes, ensuring we deliver the highest standard of care.

Q: What challenges have you faced in this role, and how have you overcome them?

One of the biggest adjustments becoming a field-based Nurse Advisor was traveling to unfamiliar locations. Initially, it felt daunting, but I’ve come to see it as an adventure. It’s helped me develop adaptability and problem-solving skills, and I love that no two days are ever the same. Plus, knowing I’m bringing expert care to patients, no matter where they are, makes it all worthwhile.

Q: How would you describe the culture at Inizio Engage?

Dynamic, forward-thinking, and full of opportunities. There’s always something new on the horizon, and I feel valued as part of a team that embraces innovation. The company is supportive and always looking to include us in exciting new projects, which keeps the role fresh and engaging.

Q: Any advice for nurses considering a career with Inizio Engage?

If you’re looking for a role that combines clinical expertise with innovation and patient-centred care, this is the place for you. It’s a fantastic opportunity to take your nursing career in a new direction while making a meaningful impact every day.
